How to Be Stress Free

Maybe you are not angry and you don’t need to know How to Control Your Anger. What if you are STRESSED (ugh, reading this word stresses me out).

People that can manage their stress levels tend to have a healthier lifestyle. Taking control of your stress means managing yourself better.  Stress can make a person grumpy and can affect their social life. Some people tend to overeat when they are stress, which can lead to obesity. Controlling your stress will give you a clear mind to focus on your goals and tasks. The result of stress management is rewarding simply because one can enjoy life with a better mood and have a positive outlook of the world.

When stressed out I Sometimes I wish I can take a 1 minute vacation, escape reality, and calm down. I hear and read things like, “quiet your mind” or “be mindful of your surroundings”. Whenever I hear those things I just nod and think to myself “what the heck does that mean!?” Enough Yoda speak, just get me stress free NOW.

How to Be Stress Free in 3 Steps or Less

1. Take a Breather: How to Be Stress Free

  • Close your eyes and envision a peaceful place,  such as the beach. Your feet covered with warm fine sand. As you look out into the calm waves, the water is crystal clear. Or maybe you can imagine that you are in a majestic forest and all you hear is a calm stream nearby.
  • Breathe deep: Inhale slowly with ease through your nose. As you inhale focus on expanding your stomach instead of your chest. Exhale slowly through your mouth. “In with the good out with the stress!” And repeat!

2. Take Control

  • “What do I have to do again? Oh , this, this, this, and that, ok got it…15 minutes later, what do I have to do again? oh yeah…”. People probably spend an hour a day doing this. Do you find yourself making a mental list of things to do over and over and over again? Often times a busy person can overwhelm themselves by thinking about the tasks he or she must complete all at one time. This process in itself is stressful because you are inputting extra effort into remembering the things to do. Simply take control and take it one step at a time.
  • Grab an organizer or a cheap planner or even a small note pad, and title it “daily goals – date”. Nowadays people have cell phones or smartphones that have a built in organizer/calendar, make use of it!
  • Write write down the “TASK” and the “TIME” to complete it. Set it and….Forget it!

3. Feel good

  • Do something that can get your mind off of your work ( if you need this step keep it less than 5 minutes). For example:
    1. Brisk walk
    2. Stretch

    5. grab a snack
    6. Share, reflect, and appreciate how fortunate you are to be alive and well!
